A letter to my future dog

Dear Bentley or Ellie,

I’ve dreamed of you for so long and don’t know when you’re coming into my life, but I know I will have you in it one day.

You’re going to be the cutest corgi that will melt my heart and I’m sure you’ll probably drive me crazy, but that’s okay.

I don’t know what to expect when I get you, but I know raising you will be a life full of ups and downs. Probably a ton of ups because you’ll be the cutest thing ever.

The only downs I see are having to be patient, because patience has never been my strong suit. Realizing that you will be like a baby, and I have to put a lot of time and energy into you. I also have to make sure that you don’t absorb any of my energy, because that’s the power of dogs. Dogs absorb energy and reflect it back at you.

Also —the biggest challenge for me will be learning the “dog” language. I’ve watched a lot of Cesar Millan to get the gist of it, but I know it’s easier to see it first hand (which I will when you’re around).

I’ve grown up with cats my entire life and have no idea what dog body languages or sounds equate to yet, but I’m sure I’ll learn as we grow together with our family.

I don’t know what cats I’ll have by the time you’re around, but I hope you love them and hope they love you too. You’ll be one of the greatest joys in my life, alongside my cats. You’ll all be my animal babies and I can’t wait.

When I meet you, I’ll be telling you all about “Zoey”. My calico cat who acted and reminded me of a Corgi. I always tell people if Zoey was a dog, she would have been a Corgi. You’ll never stop hearing about the animals who have passed in my life because I know they’ll live through you and our new adventures. Most importantly, I know their souls will always be with us, and guiding me to be a better person, and a good dog mama.

I can’t wait to take you on walks, so you can motivate me to move a lot more. I’ve been working on my health and want to get a dog to motivate me to push myself again. I used to be a runner, and I know with you, I’ll be running again and pushing myself to race again in no time!

I can’t wait to put you in cute outfits. Bentley — you’d be like my English butler. Totally in suits and fancy hats. Ellie — you’d be my princess. The prettiest girl in pink.

And that’s the thing — I don’t know what gender you’ll be until I find the right source to bring you into my life. It might not be this year, or the year after, but whenever you’re with us, I’ll know. We’ll know. And we’ll fight our hardest to make sure the one that resonates with our soul arrives to our family blueprint.

I really look forward to being able to be a dog mom for the first time, but I’m working on getting my life together so I can be the best that I can be.

I hope I’m ready when we get you, and if not, I know I’ll have no other choice but to be.

Until then, I know I’ll love you before I even meet you, and once I meet you, that love will manifest into you.

Yours,

Cecilia
